About the Director
Susan Cohen was diagnosed with Celiac Disease in 2000 at the age of thirteen. She has always viewed her diagnosis as a positive thing and it is this outlook that spurred her to get involved in the Celiac Disease community. She was a teen contact for the Westchester Celiac Sprue Support Group in high school and was teen editor of the Celiac Disease Center at Columbia University's children's cookbook, Nothing Beats Gluten-Free Cooking, which she also titled.
Susan is a 2008 graduate of Barnard College where she majored in History with a concentration in American History and minored in Art History. During college, Susan was a staff writer for the Arts & Entertainment section of the Columbia Daily Spectator and was a member of the Columbia University Varsity Fencing Team.
It was during her freshman year at Barnard that she came up with the concept for Generation Gluten-Free. Susan had always felt that the Celiac Disease community was special, and she decided the time had come to document it and share its story with the world.
